Conquering Mountains
I had a great summer! I went to Idaho for a week with a close friend. He presented an opportunity for me to visit his great-grandfather's lakehouse. He had been a sheep farmer who built the rustic cabin with his bare hands. We took long hikes, exploring the land. On one hike, we saw a massive 150-foot cliff face. It had rubble near the bottom and looked as if no one had ever climbed it. We took that as a challenge. Every step created mini avalanches of rocks, yet we kept on going, remembering how close we were to the top. After almost an hour of climbing over boulders and around cliff edges, we had made it to the top, but there was more to go! A gust of wind nearly blew us over. We ran across the millions of rocks surrounding us as quickly as we could. We were approaching the crest of the cliff. The view blew us away. We were surrounded by endless mountains and glaciers. We could see our cabin, about six miles away, and the whole trail that we had hiked. We noticed a lava tube next to us from millions of years ago. It made us wonder what our planet looked like so long ago. We noticed the irresistible dent that humans had created on our planet.
Doing this was an amazing and awakening experience. The trip allowed me to reflect upon myself, and enjoy the wonderful scenery of Idaho.
